Cold brew is known for its smooth, low-acid profile and is perfect for hot summer days. Unlike regular iced coffee, cold brew is steeped in cold water for several hours, resulting in a concentrated, mellow flavor. In this guide, we’ll show you how to make refreshing cold brew at home using freshly roasted beans from Daily Grind
Coffee Roastery.
What You’ll Need:
- Coarsely ground coffee beans
- Cold water
- Large jar or pitcher
- Fine-mesh sieve or coffee filter
- Digital scale
Step-by-Step Guide to Cold Brew
Step 1: Grind Your Coffee
Start by grinding your coffee beans to a coarse consistency. This ensures a slow, even extraction that creates the smooth, mellow flavor cold brew is known for.
Tip: Use a ratio of 1:8 coffee to water. For example, 100g of coffee to 800ml of water.
Step 2: Combine Coffee and Water
Place the coarsely ground coffee in a jar or pitcher, and pour cold water over the grounds. Stir to make sure the coffee is fully saturated.
Step 3: Steep
Cover the jar and let the coffee steep in the refrigerator for 12-24 hours, depending on how strong you want the flavor.
Step 4: Strain the Coffee
After steeping, strain the coffee through a fine-mesh sieve or coffee filter to remove the grounds.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
Serve the cold brew over ice, and dilute it with water or milk to taste. Cold brew concentrate can be stored in the fridge for up to a week.
Cold Brew Brewing Tips:
- Experiment with Steeping Time: A longer steeping time results in a stronger, more concentrated brew.
- Use Fresh Beans: Freshly roasted beans will give you the best flavor, especially with cold brew’s slower extraction process.
